Recently, we unveiled 5 new luxury suites nestled in our loft space allowing guests to stay at The Woodmans Arms for the very first time! Our fantastic reservations team have pulled together a list of must-do’s if you’re visiting the North East for the first time.
If you’ve travelled far, this may be your ideal opportunity to see The Angel of The North in Gateshead. Only a 20 minute drive away, this spectacular monument can be observed standing proud over the North East skyline for miles.
Designed by Antony Gormley and commissioned by Gateshead Council, the structure measures 20 metres tall with a 57 metre wingspan – wider than a Boeing 757!
Beamish Museum is a great day out for history lovers to revel in the beautiful story of the North East. Situated a mere 15-minute drive from The Woodmans Arms, Beamish Museum is a living, breathing time capsule documenting how our relatives used to live.
Many of the buildings were removed from neighbouring towns and cities to make way for new development projects and painstakingly reassembled brick by brick, resulting in a surreal historic experience! Family tickets are £65 for up to 5 people and Adult tickets are £22.50.
If you’ve travelled far and have ample time, there’s nothing wrong with a lazy day in your bespoke suite! The suites in The Nest have their own unique personality, but all come equipped with Hypnos beds, flatscreen Smart TV’s and Nespresso coffee machines.
With The Woodmans Arms just downstairs, you’re a mere stone’s throw away from our cosy bar and eclectic restaurant.
Shopping sprees are more than possible with the close links to Newcastle City centre and Metrocentre. Whether you just fancy a spot of window shopping, or you’re looking for something specific, The Nest at the Woodmans is a great base to explore some of the North East’s premier retail destinations.
The Nest at The Woodmans is surrounded by a number of rural walking trails and cycling routes. To ensure everyone can enjoy our fantastic surroundings, we offer free wellies and umbrellas to all guests staying in The Nest!
Turn off your phone’s notifications and enjoy the fresh air (if only we could promise lovely weather!).
Gibside National Trust Park is a gorgeous place to visit when in the area. Offering free entry for anyone with a National Trust card, or £14 for adult admission, it’s a chance to let the kids run around or to have a walk in the tranquil gardens.
Gibside is only a 9 minute drive from The Woodmans Arms.
We couldn’t make a list of things to do while staying in the North East without including a trip to Tynemouth!
The beaches here stretching from Tynemouth bay to Whitley Bay recently received their globally-recognised Blue Flag status, meaning a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.
Boasting a number of beautiful restaurants, cafes and only a 30 minute drive away, Tynemouth is definitely worth a visit.
If you’re up for travelling a little further north, why not give our sister venues a visit? The Jolly Fisherman in Craster, Northumberland boasts one of the best beer gardens in the UK! Sample their world-famous North Sea crab sandwiches from the lunch menu after a scenic walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. Or in the evening, savour incredible seafood dishes whilst watching the North Sea waves crash against Craster’s harbour walls.
